A cornerstone to behaviours change philosophy is the normalising of actions. The results from the Strategy consultation suggests that many people in the Shire are not aware of the wonderful work being done by others.
The Local Heroes project was born from this opportunity to showcase the little and big things being done in the Shire to reduce our impacts on the environment.
So, who is your local sustainability hero? Who will inspire others? We are looking for the Sweater Brigade who'd rather wear their knits than turn on the heat, the food growers, the compost sharers, the resource collaborators and the mom-and-pop shop doing the right thing by having got rid of plastic bags.
Please drop us a line on email@example.com with your nominations.
The data gathered will inform the next phase of the strategy development which is the internal stakeholder consultation.
These internal workshop will help develop commitments from all parts of Council to reduce Council's environmental impact, as well as support the community in reducing yours.
Despite the tumultuous year that has been we still anticipate having the strategy finished by early next financial year.
Once a Strategy is developed the visions therein inform PLANS.
Wingecarribee Shire Council already has a number of environmental plans, such as the Climate Change Adaptation Plan, which will be tweaked and listed under the Strategy. We are however also developing a few more plans.
The first one is the Greenhouse Gas Reduction plan. This Plan will be the roadmap laying out the path for Council operations to reach the environmental targets committed to in the Strategy.
It will also identify what the most effective ways are for Council to support the community in reducing their emissions.
A separate plan will be developed as a community guide - currently titled the Community Net Zero Plan. We anticipate that this plan will be developed late 2021.
What is WSC doing already?

This award aims to recognise the achievements of local business that apply and promote sustainable practices that contribute to an economic and environmental balance in our region.
Sustainability encompasses a broad range of management practices that influence the balance between how we value our resources and manage the by-products of business operations. By increasing the sustainability of business operations, businesses and the community can benefit from improved resource efficiencies, cost reductions, improved capacity, and improved customer satisfaction.
